West Antarctica To Collapse Again – But Not Soon

March 20, 2009 By jennifer

CLIMATE change has always been driven by the sun, the earth’s orbit and plate tectonics, at least that is what many so-called sceptic would argue.

In a new paper in this week’s journal Nature Tim Naish and colleagues conclude that there is a relationship between the past collapse of West Antarctic ice shelf and the earth’s orbit. In the same issue of Nature there is an article by David Pollard who, with Robert De Conto, ran a five-million-year computer simulation of the ice sheet and concluded that if surrounding waters increase by 5 degrees Celsius, it could melt in one thousand years or so.

Weather Bureau Blows Budget on New SuperComputers

March 20, 2009 By jennifer

THE Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian National University will spend $30 million on two new supercomputers that will more accurately predict cyclones, tsunamis and the effects of climate change.  Read more here.

Atmospheric Greenhouse Effect Falsified, Again

March 18, 2009 By jennifer

According to a new paper in the International Journal of Modern Physics by showing that (a) there are no common physical laws between the warming phenomenon in glass houses and the fictitious atmospheric greenhouse effects, (b) there are no calculations to determine an average surface temperature of a planet, (c) the frequently mentioned difference of 33 degrees Celsius is a meaningless number calculated wrongly, (d) the formulas of cavity radiation are used inappropriately, (e) the assumption of a radiative balance is unphysical, (f) thermal conductivity and friction must not be set to zero, the atmospheric greenhouse conjecture is falsified.

There is a freely available post-print version of the technical paper entitled, ‘Falsifcation Of The Atmospheric CO2 Greenhouse Effects Within The Frame Of Physics’, by Gerhard Gerlich
And Ralf D. Tscheuschner, available from the preprint server of the Cornell University, click here.

Urban Heat Islands in China

March 17, 2009 By jennifer

P.D. Jones et al are now accepting urban warming over China at a rate of a degree per century. Bit of a change from 0.05 that the IPCC have parroted for decades, say Warwick Hughes, read more here.

Synchronous States and Climate Shifts

March 17, 2009 By jennifer

We were very excited when we realized a lot of changes in the past century from warmer to cooler [global temperature trend] and then back to warmer were all natural, says Anastosios Tsonis, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.  Read more here.

Heaven and Earth: New Book by Ian Plimer

March 17, 2009 By jennifer

CONNOR Court Publishing is about to release a new book by well known Australian geologist and climate change skeptic, Ian Plimer.

It is entitled, ‘Heaven and Earth – Global Warming: The Missing Science’

According to the pre-release publicity:

THE Earth is an evolving dynamic system. Current changes in climate, sea level and ice are within variability. Atmospheric CO2  is the lowest for 500 million years. Climate has always been driven by the Sun, the Earth’s orbit and plate tectonics and the oceans, atmosphere and life respond. Humans have made their mark on the planet, thrived in warm times and struggled in cool times.

The hypothesis that humans can actually change climate is unsupported by evidence from geology, archaeology, history and astronomy. The hypothesis is rejected.
