Australian Broadcasting Corporation Endorses More ‘Junk Science’

March 29, 2012 By jennifer

ELEANOR HALL: Australian delegates to an international conference on global sustainability delivered a warning today that the earth is reaching a point where it’s changing beyond our control.

Almost 3,000 scientists have been in London for the conference to discuss the relatively new field of earth system science.

That’s how the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) began a story today on ‘The World Today’.

Want to really know what the conference is about and how qualified the scientists delivering the message about tipping points are?

Are Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO Reports Reliable? A Note from Cohenite

March 22, 2012 By Cohenite

THE CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology [BOM] are the peak Australian scientific institutions. Various governments in Australia rely on the scientific conclusions from these government-funded scientific institutions. The assumption is that the scientific advice from the CSIRO and BOM is not only reliable but reasonable. But is it?

A regular contributor to this blog, Anthony Cox, also known as Cohenite, examines the scientific evidence presented in the two most recent reports from the CSIRO and BOM: the BOM Annual Climate Summary 2011 and State of the Climate Report – 2012.

Cohenite is not a scientist, but he is interested in the evidence.

Dear Jennifer.

Please find below a link which will take you directly to the monthly newsletter (ca. 1.8 MB) with meteorological information updated to February 2012:

http://www.climate4you.com/Text/Climate4you_February_2012.pdf

All temperatures in this newsletter are shown in degrees Celsius.

Previous issues (since March 2009) of the newsletter, diagrams and additional material are available on http://www.climate4you.com/

The Moon and Rainfall in Eastern Australia

March 3, 2012 By jennifer

Dear Jennifer,

My paper ‘Lunar Tides and the Long-Term Variation of the Peak Latitude Anomaly of the Summer Sub-Tropical High Pressure Ridge over Eastern Australia’ has been published at:

http://www.benthamscience.com/open/toascj/articles/V006/49TOASCJ.pdf

It can be down loaded for free!

The main take-home conclusions from this paper are that:

1. The most important influence upon the climate of Northern NSW and Southern Queensland after the La Nina/El Nino phenomenon is the Peak Latitude Anomaly for the Summer Sub-Tropical High Pressure Ridge over Eastern Australia (L(SA)).

2. The interannual variability of L(SA) is major mechanism influencing inter-annual rainfall variability in Eastern Australia. It has also been shown to be connected to the inter-annular variability of the annual mean maximum temperatures, zonal westerly winds, meridional winds and mean air temperature.

3. The long-term (i.e for periods of 2 to 20 years) variations of L(SA) are dominated by (significant) periodic signals at 9.4 (+0.4/-0.3) and 3.78 (+/- 0.06) years.

4. L(SA) systematically moves away from the Equator as the angle between the Earth-Sun axis and the line-of-nodes of the Lunar orbit (at the time of perihelion) decreases. The magnitude of the movement of the mean summer peak latitude anomaly can amount to 1 degree of latitude over the 9.3 year semi-draconic spring tidal cycle.

5. L(SA) systematically moves towards the Equator as the number of days (to the nearest full day) that New/Full is from Perihelion decreases. The magnitude of the movement of the mean summer peak latitude anomaly can amount to 0.7 degree of latitude over the 3.8 year peak spring tidal cycle.

6. The 9.4 year signal in L(SA) is in-phase with the draconic spring tidal cycle, while the phase of the 3.8 year signal in L(SA) is retarded by one year compared to the 3.8 year peak spring tidal cycle.

7. This paper supports the conclusion that long-term changes in the lunar tides, in combination with the more dominant solar-driven seasonal cycles, play an important role in determining the observed inter-annual to decadal variations of L(SA).

8. The IPCC does not take into account the important effects upon climate of long-term
lunar atmospheric tides.

Cheers,
Ian Wison

Official Temperature Adjustments to Enhance Overall Global Temperature Rise Since 1880

February 18, 2012 By jennifer

OLE Humlum, Professor of Physical Geography, University of Oslo, Norway, puts out a regular monthly newsletter with the latest global climate statistics.

The latest update to January 2012 is here
http://www.climate4you.com/Text/Climate4you_January_2012.pdf

This newsletter includes comment that following adjustments to temperature data held by the National Climate Data Centre (NCDC) early last year, and their subsequent incorporation by NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS)…

The overall effect of the change introduced in the GISS record is towards lower temperatures in the early part of the record and higher in the latter part. The net result is therefore an enhancement of the overall global temperature rise since 1880. Various graphs are provided to illustrate the effect.

Body Blow To German Global Warming Movement: P Gosselin

February 7, 2012 By jennifer

Page 2 story in Bild today! The first of a series.
“THE CO2 LIES … pure fear-mongering … should we blindly trust the experts?”

That’s what Germany’s leading daily Bild wrote in its print and online editions today, on the very day that renowned publisher Hoffmann & Campe officially released a skeptic book – one written by a prominent socialist and environmental figure.

This is huge. More than I ever could have possibly imagined. And more is coming in the days ahead! The Bild piece was just the first of a series.

Mark this as the date that Germany’s global warming movement took a massive body blow.
